We asked, you answered!

In November, we made a post asking for volunteers to step forward and become Lunch Buddies for two young people in need of mentoring -- one young man at Summit Academy in Lorain, and one young woman at Crestwood Elementary.

We are happy to say that both Littles are now matched with Big Sisters, and things seem to be going great so far!

Now for a new challenge:

At our Washington afterschool program in Lorain, we have a fourth-grade boy who needs a mentor. The Washington program takes place from 2:30-4 p.m. every Monday in the music room. We do homework, read and play board games, and the boys at that program really love to build things from Legos. Then we play games such as Silent Ball or Hot Potato as a group.

At our Westway program in Elyria, we have two young men, one in first grade and one in third, who would like Big Sisters. That program is from 3:30-5 p.m. at the Westway Gardens community room on Infirmary Road (less than 5 minutes' drive from downtown Elyria). This is a fun, energetic group that loves Candyland and football.

If you would like to be a friend, role model and guide for one of these three young men, click on our Volunteer Application (http://www.bigloraincounty.org/volunteer_form) to get started now, or contact Andrea Haynes, our School Based Manager, at (440) 277-6541 or andrea@bigloraincounty.org for more information. Bigs in our School Based program must be at least 14, have transportation to their selected site, and be able to make at least a one-year commitment to the program.
