United Way kicking off fundraising campaign with tailgating

United Way of Greater Lorain County will start its 2012 campaign season with a fun-filled tailgate-themed event 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at Mike Bass Ford. The event will be free and open to the public; however, registration is required and can be completed at www.uwloraincounty.org/events/uwglc2012kickoff.

The kickoff will include a cornhole tournament, activities and prizes. The event will also include the 2012 Battle of the Wings competition. This competition will give event participants a chance to taste wings from restaurants across Lorain County. Participants will then cast their vote on which restaurant will be crowned the 2012 Battle of the Wings Champion. The kickoff also includes a collaborative effort with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lorain County called “Stuff the Bus.”

The “Stuff the Bus” initiative is designed to provide school supplies to children in need and the kickoff event will feature a school bus where event participants are asked to donate various school supplies that will be packaged and delivered to area schools.

To sign up to participate in the Cornhole Tournament, contact Bailey Reynolds at (440) 277-6530 or bailey.reynolds@uwloraincounty.org. Leading the 2012 United Way of Greater Lorain County campaign is Cathy Pugh, director of academic services at Lorain County Joint Vocational School.
